Last weekend I held a guys night at CFC for the high school teens from the church where I am a youth minister. We promoted it at a couple of our retreats, at our Wednesday night Bible Study, and at our Sunday School program on Sunday. I thought we would have tons of guys show up for this tough, manly, intense night where fitness was going to collide with faith. The YMCA likes to use the phrase “Body, Mind, and Spirit” but they had nothing on this night we had cooked up for the guys. Then only 9 guys showed up, but that was 9 high school guys who showed up and bought in to what we were selling while dozens more had to make the decision not to show up, not to stretch themselves. Sound familiar? We know the excuses, the fears, the insecurities all too well. So I am proud of the 9 that showed up…and they showed up big time! We squatted, jumped on things, lifted things, rowed, and ran! We ate lots of healthy food, not your typical “round” youth ministry food like pizza, donuts, and cookies. We prayed, we hung out, we spent time connecting with just the guys! Thank you CFC for opening up your home to our guys, for giving back to the community, for allowing us to spend a Friday night in a healthy environment beyond our church walls. This really was a night about the whole body, the whole person…body, mind, and soul!
