This morning on the way home I was trying to figure out why I am so comparatively slow on box jump and concluded that it is strong self imposed mental limitation, ” I’m 200+, I rowed too hard my legs feel funny” (yes there is a large component of self preservation on Box Jumps). And that led me to think more….. Don’t you often hear “X months ago I couldn’t have done that”, and that is a great feeling, but at some level I disagree, I believe we could, our real limitations (strength, stamina, and coordination) are far beyond our belief of what we are capable of. I highly recommend reading “The One that Got Away” and “PT 109″ these are both amazing stories of endurance that relied nothing on adrenaline but instead grim and gritty determination to do what must be done. I believe that while 20 percent of our performance is refining our VO2 max, reducing our weight and relearning athletic coordination 80% is just convincing our heads that the gloves need to come off.

Thanks so much to Lana this morning. She really deserves much of the credit for my time. I thought we were doing the same reps and she was always just a few steps ahead of me. In my determination to catch her, I pushed harder than I thought I could. Only after did I realize we weren’t doing the same amount of reps. At that point I didn’t care b/c it just felt so good to know I did more than I thought I was capable of doing! Thanks Lana! I also need to thank Matt P. for whatever reason his presence makes me push harder. I don’t want to disappoint……..I would hate to lose my position on the View!!

Funny that Casey said I pushed her because she actually pushed me. I knew that I was doing 10 less reps than she was and all I could think was I have to beat her…no excuses. So the Thanks is being sent back to you Casey for pushing me.

    To Lana and Casey,
Both of your comments above prove the effectiveness, beyond doubt, of group CrossFit training. In a group, there is always someone or something present pushing you to work harder than you thought you could.

    To all,
While Pam and I pride ourselves on being able to teach and instruct proper biomechanical human movement, and to motivate folks to expect more out of themselves than they thought possible…our real sense of accomplishment comes from seeing this community develop the way it has.
How many times now have we seen CFC members thank other CFC members for motivation, sometimes intended, sometimes not?
I lost count a long time ago.
    We’re proud of you all!
    Matt

I think next time I will have to upgrade to lvl2 for this one, but since it’s my second week I wasn’t sure how far to push. I miss my morning group, and can’t wait to start back up at 5am.

Was so suprised to see 8 minutes, I forgot to look at the other #’s. Thanks to Matt for pushing me harder than I thought I could go. I second the sentiments in the earlier posts of each of us encouraging each other. I was very nervous about coming to a gym everyday before I started at crossfit but everyone I have met is very non-judgemental and I get an encouraing word from at least one person everytime.
